The Flow Newsletter Winter 2011 Edition

Jennifer headshot

Dear Readers,

Each year I eagerly wait for the winter "Women in Glass" issue to be published. The fabulous collection of glass art created by so many truly talented female artists simply amazes me. I hope you will agree that the fifteen pages included in this year's gallery are filled with beautiful, stunning work that reminds us just how creative women can be when it comes to working in glass.

Let me thank all of you for remaining such a caring community of glass artists. Your willingness to give of yourselves to the world at large, particularly in projects like the Beads of Courage program that was featured in the Summer 2011 issue of The Flow, makes me proud to be part fo this wonderful group of special people. Wil and I want to take this opportunity to offer a huge thank-you to all of those who have supported The Flow and to let you know how much we treasure our relationships with each and every one of you. We look forward to sharing even more information in the years to come that will help you to make it on your journey toward excellence in glass.

As always . . . Keep your light shining and your torches lit!

Jennifer Menzies

In 2006 Hayley discovered the magic of glass while searching for interesting beads to incorporate into her jewelry. She has had the privilege of studying under many inspiring artists who have influenced her work. Her latest endeavors in her flameworking journey include humongous blown hollows, intricate stringer decoration, and giant-hole rings. Visit www.envisionsf.com to view more of Hayley's glass art.
Amy is an artist and educator based in Louisville, Kentucky, who has been working with glass since 1997. She specializes in flameworking, with an emphasis on soft glass sculpture, beadmaking, and botanical replication. Upon returning she found an open apprenticeship, dedicating herself to the torch for the following five months.  In 2009, Glass Aficionado published Ginger's work, which stirred up a whirlwind of activity in the ensuing months. Every year Ginger returns to the Black Rock desert where she first discovered her creativity. Visit www.gingerla.com to view more of Ginger's glass art.
