ALL ABOUT THE FLAME OFF
FRIDAY, FEBRUARY 7TH 7-11PM (DOORS AT 6:30) $15 @ SONORAN GLASS SCHOOL 633 W 18TH ST. We're bringing the 13th annual Flame Off back to Sonoran Glass School. Our torchworking competition comes complete with live HD video screens of competitors, plenty of bleacher seating, food trucks, and a fully equipped cash bar. Last year, over 500 attended and the event was named one of the "Must See Events" of the Gem, Mineral & Fossil Show by the Arizona Daily Star. Founded here in Tucson by Tom Philabauam, The Flame Off has grown into a highly anticipated flameworking event and important fundraiser for Sonoran Glass School. Glass artists-many world-renowned for their work-compete against the clock in front of hundreds of spectators. This year's event will include one 90-minute rounds solo competition and a two-hour team competition. Glass artist and SGS Board Member Margaret Zinser will host the event, commentating on all the action and explaining the artists' technical processes. The resulting glass art pieces are spontaneous creations which demonstrate the tremendous skill, under immense pressure, of the competing artists in the glass art medium. Attendees have the chance to get an up-close and personal view of the action of the artists at work and learn how elaborate glass art is crafted. Pieces are available for live bidding during the competition as well. Glass artists have agreed to donate their finished Flame Off Pieces to the Sonoran Glass School for bidding in online auctions. All pieces will then be displayed for competition judging and public viewing at Sonoran Glass School the following day.
