Beads depicting an eye or those with dots resembling an eye have been created by various cultures as early as the sixth millennium BC through modern times. These eye beads were created in ancient cultures to ward off the negative energy of the “evil eye” and continued to develop from Mediterranean head beads, decorative Chinese eye motifs, Roman Empire face beads, Islamic mosaic eye beads, and Venetian trade beads to the production of African powder beads and current Turkish beads.
